Madd Inkz respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have.
Madd Inkz is a sole proprietorship operated by Maddie Reid (legal name Madison Reid), based in Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York. References to we, us, and our mean Maddie Reid doing business as Madd Inkz.
This Privacy Policy applies to information collected in the studio, through this website, and by email when you contact us, request an appointment, sign consent forms, subscribe to emails, or otherwise engage with Madd Inkz.
It does not cover third-party websites or services linked from our site or social pages, including Instagram.

Before your first tattoo we must confirm you are 18 or older. You can either upload a copy of your photo identification when you sign your consent form, or present it in person at your appointment. If you present it in person, no copy is stored. If you upload it, the copy is held in separate storage, is never loaded into our email marketing system, is not shared with anyone except where legally required, and is permanently deleted 30 days after you upload it. Your signed consent form is retained as the record that identification was checked.
We use what we collect to operate the studio, provide services safely, keep records, and communicate with you. We use your contact details to respond to booking requests, confirm appointments, and send service messages such as aftercare instructions and touch-up check-ins.
We use your date of birth to confirm you are 18 or older, which New York State law requires. If you have opted in to marketing emails, we also use it to send a birthday offer.
We use state-issued identification to verify identity and confirm eligibility to be tattooed.
We use health and medical information solely to decide whether it is safe to tattoo you and how to do it safely. We do not use health information for marketing, we do not load it into our email marketing system, and we do not use it to target or segment you.
Marketing emails are sent only to people who have opted in. Website analytics help us understand traffic and improve the site.
If you receive marketing emails from us, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in the email.
Submitting a booking request does not subscribe you to marketing. You are only added to our marketing list if you tick the opt-in box on the booking form.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop service emails about your own appointment, including aftercare guidance and touch-up check-ins, which we need to be able to send you.
Email is our primary way of contacting you. Occasionally, if something about your appointment is time-sensitive, we may call or text the number you provided. We do not send marketing text messages. If you would prefer we only ever contact you by email, tell us and we will.
When you upload reference images through our booking form, they are converted to a standard image format and stored with our cloud storage provider on servers in the United States.
These files can be opened by anyone who has the direct link. The link is long, is not published anywhere, and is not indexed by search engines, but it is not password protected. This is deliberate. It is what allows your artist to open your references directly from an email without needing an account.
Please do not upload anything you would not want seen by someone who obtained that link. If you need to share something more sensitive, contact us and we will arrange another way.
Reference images are kept until your tattoo is finished and for 90 days afterwards, then deleted. If you would like yours removed sooner, just ask.
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information with service providers that help us operate: our website host, which processes form submissions; our cloud storage provider, which stores uploaded reference images, signed consent forms, and identification copies; our email delivery provider, which sends appointment and service emails; and our email marketing provider, which stores contact details for people who have opted in. Health information you disclose is not sent to our email marketing provider.
We may disclose information to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests including inquiries from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, protect our rights and the safety of clients and staff, or investigate potential fraud. Information may transfer in connection with a sale or reorganization of the business.
We also share limited information with the payment providers used to take deposits and final payments: Stripe, which handles card payments and online invoices, and PayPal and Venmo. Each receives your name, your email address and the amount due. Card details are entered directly with the provider and are never seen or stored by us. Cash and Zelle payments do not pass through a processor we control; a Zelle transfer moves between your bank and ours.
This website may use cookies and similar technologies to support site functionality and measure traffic. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly if you block them.
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the business and for legitimate business and legal purposes. Access to sensitive information is limited to those who need it.
Signed consent forms and the service records that go with them are kept for six years after your last appointment, so that we have a record of what was agreed and that identification was checked. Uploaded copies of photo identification are kept for 30 days from the date of upload and are then permanently deleted. Booking requests that do not become appointments, and any reference images attached to them, are deleted after 12 months. Marketing contact details are kept until you unsubscribe. Access to consent forms and identification is limited to Maddie Reid.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute security.
Our services are not directed to children, and New York State law prohibits tattooing anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, except as may be necessary to refuse unlawful services or comply with legal obligations.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top.
